Christmas Messages From Our Church Leaders

Father Henry Kulah
Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church

Father Henry Kulah was ordained in Ghana in 1984. After years of administrative service, Father Henry was excited to have the opportunity to be assigned to the United States. His first US assignment was right here at Our Lady of Good Counsel in 2002 where he was able to work with Father Kelly.

Many assignments throughout the Diocese and many miles later, Father Kulah returned to OLGC in December 2022. He loves island life and getting to know the parishioners. He plans to stay here for years though hopes one day to return to Ghana.

Father Kulah is disheartened that far too much conflict exists today, both locally and nationally, but he is confident that loving our neighbor is the way for us to find common ground and peace. He wants to remind us this Christmas season that we are all children of the same Father. Jesus teaches us that everyone is our neighbor and to love your neighbor as yourself.

Senior Pastor Reverend Clark Carter
Folly Beach Baptist Church

Pastor Clark Carter started full time at Folly Beach Baptist Church in May 2023 after 21 years at Charleston Southern University where he was (sometimes at the same time): Campus Minister, Dean of Students, and Vice President of Student Life. He is grateful to have had the chance to influence thousands of students in such a pivotal time of their lives.

But Pastor Carter always yearned to pastor again and is thankful to be back in church world where the pastoring is cradle to grave and he can grow old with his church family. He loves the island vibe and no blazer no tie Sunday. However, that hour-long commute from Nexton is a bummer – thankfully that should end soon.

Pastor Clark’s message is that Faith boils down to two things: loving God and loving others. If you love God well, then you will love others well too. Loving God and loving our neighbors is what it’s all about.

Pastor Randall Horres
Folly Beach United Methodist Church

Reverend Randall Horres has been the pastor at Folly Beach Methodist United Church for nine years. He loves the ecumenical spirit among the three FB churches. Pastor Randall and his wife, Renee, just celebrated their 30th anniversary. Congratulations!

Pastor Horres believes Christmas is a most suitable time for us to remember that Jesus tells us to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31 Pastor Horres adds that sometimes we churched-up people can be way too serious. He grew up in a large family where he learned that the value of a laugh cannot be overestimated.

Pastor Horres’s recurrent message to Folly residents, regardless of the season, is: Let’s love one another and let’s keep on laughing as we find ways to celebrate Life on the Edge.
