Cindy and Roger Salway at 419 West Hudson are September Yard of the Month recipients. Having vacationed on Folly they purchased their retirement home in 2016 and made it their permanent residence in 2019. The yard is Roger’s domain while Cindy nourishes boxes and pots of flowers on their porch. Begonias are currently abundant.
Roger began by installing an irrigation system beneath the dense Saint Augustine grass. The oaks and palmettos were present in the front left bed which are newly enhanced with river rocks. Loropetulum, breeze grass and tractor seats offer texture. Color is splashed with flax lilies, white camellias and gold lantana.
Dominating the front lawn are three large rocks and a humongous yucca. Cindy envisions the rock on the right as a turtle and is lobbying to paint it with green eyes and flippers.
Red flax lillies brought from up north line the right front bed. They thrive on Folly year round. Lavender crepe myrtles march on the right side of their yard. A large palmetto is the finale.
They find gardening relaxing and enjoy being able to walk to the beach. The lure of Center Street’s restaurants and shops are still a favorite aspect of Folly for them. Congratulations to the Salways for offering a garden benchmark for their neighborhood.
The Garden Club will meet Wednesday, September 27th at noon in the Folly Community Center. Dabney and Sons Landscaping and Grading will be our speaker. Happy Labor Day,
